UN Women / UNCCD: Great Green Wall: Gender-sensitive Income generation & Green Job creation opportunities in the Central and West African Sahel

GlobalCAD, in consortium with La Fabrique, carried out research that aimed to identify high-impact green jobs in Central and West Africa and measures for women to access them. This study focused on green employment opportunities for women in business activities and for businesses run by women in Burkina Faso and Senegal. For this, the following tasks were developed:

  • mapping existing and potential opportunities for green jobs and income-generating activities in the green economy in Senegal and Burkina Faso;
  • identification and understanding of the drivers and barriers that women encounter in accessing green jobs and income-generating activities in the green economy in both countries;
  • identification of operational solutions to promote women’s access to green jobs that can be translated into flagship projects to be implemented, among others, in the context of the Great Green Wall initiative
  • identification of areas of opportunity for women-led businesses to access green entrepreneurship and green companies, particularly in high value-added sectors of the green economy and/or leveraging innovation and technology
