Case study on the institutional dimension of social cohesion

El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras
Jul. 2012 – Oct. 2012

Social cohesion has become the focus of relations and political dialogue between the European Union and Latin America. The European Commission has released the program URB -AL III, aimed at incrementing the degree of social and territorial cohesion within the sub-national and regional authorities in Latin America. Its specific objective is to strengthen or promote – relying on partnerships and exchange of experiences in a limited number of cities and territories in Latin America – processes and policies of social cohesion that can become reference models, generate debates and indicate possible solutions to subnational governments in Latin America who wish to promote social cohesion dynamics.

As part of the project “Promoting social cohesion and regional territorial integration of the border towns of the “Trifinio Centroamericano” of the URB -AL Programme, GlobalCAD has been assigned to elaborate a case study on one of the dimensions of social cohesion established by the European Commission under the third phase of the URB -AL III Programme. This document was presented and discussed at the workshop on “instisociatutional dimension of social cohesion” during the Encounter ‘Bogota 2012 ‘ of URBsociAL, held in the month of October 2012.
