Last April 2018, the Third BoP Global Network Summit met in New Delhi bringing together more than 200 participants from 30 countries, including international and local NGOs, entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, national governments, academics, international aid agencies, impact investors and multilateral organizations.
The Summit focused around three emerging strategies to enable inclusive growth within the framework of sustainable development:
> Beyond Environmental Degradation: Toward BoP Circular Economy Strategies
> Beyond Pipelines: Toward BoP Platform Strategies
> Beyond Selling to the Poor: Toward BoP Market Engagement Strategies
The Hon. Minister of Commerce & Industry of India, Mr Suresh Prabhu, participated as Chief Guest and keynote speaker for the event created a call to action, emphasizing it’s time to create unique theories based on problem diagnostic and holistic solutions in nature, as one cannot fight poverty and inclusivity without integrating the environment in the business model.
During the event, the new book of the BoP Global Network, The Green Leap to an Inclusive Economy, was presented by its editors Fernando Casado and Stuart Hart, together with some of the authors: Markus Dietrich, Jack Sim and Daniel Buchbinder.
In addition, during the Summit it was announced that the Fourth BoP Global Network Summit 2020 will be held in Barcelona.
The BoP Summit enables participants to share experiences, explore emerging BoP opportunities, reflect on key challenges, and learn from relevant academics and practitioners in the field. The Summit in Barcelona will host plenary sessions featuring state-of-the-art innovations as well as working sessions to build and accelerate partnerships bringing new opportunities to the worlds’ poorest populations. The BoP Global Network Summit fosters enabling networks and ecosystems and discusses emerging strategies to reach and work with low-income communities through social innovation. This will be based on the interchanges between relevant practitioners and the identification of innovative ecosystems, new business models and effective financial instruments.
