CAD supports the implementation of REDD+ in Guyana

CAD has been engaged by the Government of Guyana to conduct consultation and outreach activities to support the implementation of REDD+ in the country. The objective of this assignment is to ensure that key stakeholders understand the programme and have a strong participation in the readiness process and the REDD+ Strategy Development. The assignment will be implemented over the next 24 months with the Inter-American Development Bank identified as the local donor partner.

CAD experts will develop a harmonized methodology to undertake broad consultation with and participation of key stakeholders for future REDD+ programmes to ensure the engagement of different social groups, transparency and accountability of decision making. This harmonized methodology includes the development of a Communication and Outreach Strategy and Action Plan, of communication materials as well as conducting the outreach sessions.

The CAD team’s work will focus in the hinterland regions and the outreach sessions will be designed to update the public and in particular Amerindian Villages and Forest Dependent Communities on key issues related to climate change and the implementation of REDD+.

CAD has worked on REDD+ with governments, communities and donors such as the World Bank, developing communication materials and documenting initiatives in various countries, including Mozambique, Ghana, Madagascar, Cameroon, Ethiopia and Liberia.
